1.Roles and responsibilities of a quantity surveyor in pre-contract stage
In this stage,Quantity surveyor mainly assist the client to develop his wish list.
On the basis of architectural sketched drawing of project an detailed cost-estimation & quantity estimation of material is done by the quantity surveyor.
In this stage the accuracy of estimation is less,because construction drawing and plans are not available in this stage.
2.Roles and responsibilities of a quantity surveyor in Contract stage
In this stage quantity surveyor makes BILL OF QUANTITY from detailed construction drawings and plans.
QS evaluates the tender accurately and accordingly with the work on site so that the tender priced correctly.
Evaluation of tender includes
- BOQ
- Tender drawings
- Specification of work
- Tender form
3.Roles and responsibilities of a quantity surveyor in Post-Contract stage
In this stage,quantity surveyor submits the tender report to the principal agent and after that assists the client to make a decision on which contract pr tender will be suitable for the project.
At last Quantity surveyor prepares a contract documentation.

From the moment a plan is drawn until a large construction project has been completed, a quantity surveyor is likely to be involved in a legal, technical and financial capacity.They need to make sure that the project remains efficient and profitable.
